The UK’s Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) targets plastic packaging manufactured in or imported into the UK. If the packaging contains less than 30% recycled plastic, it is subject to taxation. Starting April 1, 2025, the tax rate will increase to £223.69 per tonne (previously £217.85), further encouraging businesses to use recycled plastics.

  • Plastic packaging with recycled content below 30%.

Since the implementation of PPT in 2022, companies using plastic packaging with less than 30% recycled content are subject to a tax of over £200 per tonne. To reduce costs and comply with regulations, switching to packaging with high PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) content has become essential.
